Countertop after cleaning and rearranging project — L to R — coffee, frozen treats, tea, blending, cutting and juicing station. The two shiny items on the left are my newest acquisitions.

I didn’t take a before picture. It was too shaming. The Ninja blender was sort of where the ice-cream thing is now. The rack of teas, stuffed fuller and more messy, was sort of where the cutting board is now. It was almost inaccessible due to being surrounded by scores of dusty spice jars and envelopes, two cooking utensil caddies made from old oatmeal boxes, a few other miscellaneous food items that didn’t fit in the cupboards, and quite often, dirty crockery. A lot of that stuff was temporarily shifted here, to the other side of the stove, which is just outside the right edge of the picture.

Yikes!

But the worst part was how filthy the countertop had got from about seven-plus years of that state. I had to use three different cleaning products, 20 minutes, and a lot of elbow grease to get it clean. Here’s a picture before I put the new items there where you can see how clean it got.

I call this Step 2, but there is no Step 1.

I have been having really bad luck with coffee makers. I had a plastic, off-brand version of that new Cuisinart one…
