Deborama’s Kitchen — 2021 So Far

Overhead shot of a colorful small plate with a toasted sandwich, an orange, and a small side of kimchee on it.

I didn’t manage to eat up all the wild rice mixture I made for Christmas dinner, even though I had at least two more meals with it in the days between Christmas and the year’s end. So I put what was left that day in the freezer.

Both my fridge and my freezer seem to be always bursting at the seams. And its capacity is much more than my old one, even though its footprint is about the same. (That’s physical footprint; its energy footprint is much smaller.)

I started out the new year wanting to try some new meal kits. I registered as a customer on Hungry Root and Purple Carrot. I immediately got myself in a muddle on that. I am in multiple muddles right now, nothing life-threatening, but enough to make me annoyed with myself. I’ll get it straightened out eventually, by which time something else will be muddled. I have become resigned. It only took 68 years!

I thought Hungry Root and Purple Carrot were going to arrive on the same day (two days ago) but I was wrong — on both counts! Hungry Root arrived a week earlier than I thought, and Purple Carrot arrives a week from next Wednesday. Both of these tout plant-based eating although only Purple Carrot is completely PB. Hungry Root is not even completely vegetarian, but it’s easy to use it and be completely vegan, unlike most of the others.
